Luncheon Club

Eating is one of life's pleasures and is an important social event for most people.

Bolton Woods lunch club gives older people the opportunity to leave the house, and to meet old friends and make new ones in a warm and friendly setting. The Lunch club gives you the chance to socialise while enjoying a hot healthy balanced and nutritious meal.

Held every Monday at Bolton Woods Community Centre

For People Aged 55 and Over

After enjoying lunch there is a chance to chat and play bingo. When funding is available we have other activities including exercise, reflexology and much more.

The service is supported by the centres mini bus, so that people can be picked up from home and taken back at the end of the session.

This groups is run by volunteers

Children and Youth Group

Children in the Bolton Woods area are enjoying fun activities, thanks to the new In and Out of Woods Children and Youth Group, now open at Bolton Woods Community Centre.

Youngsters are meeting new friends and getting involved with music, table tennis, pool, ball games, table top games, arts and crafts and many other entertaining activities. The club even has a tuck shop!

To enable us to run the group we have 2 qualified staff and 3 volunteers who are new to volunteering at the centre.

The group runs on Wednesdays from 6.00pm - 7.15pm for 7 to 10 year olds.

As youngsters Summer Walsh and Courtney Mitchell explain: We like coming because it gets us off the street. We play fun games, the leaders are very helpful and friendly, and we always have fun!

Courses

We run many different courses throughout the year covering many different subjects.

Bolton Woods in Partnership with Shipley College

We offer accredited learning opportunities in Skills for Life. Literacy, Numeracy and ICT.

Skills for Life

Skills for Life qualifications are a great confidence booster, and are especially valuable to those who want to take the first step back into learning, but are anxious about returning to study.

Bolton Woods is a friendly, informal learning environment.  All staff are supportive and highly qualified.  Often, the Skills for Life sessions are scheduled when the crèche is running, so if you need childcare, please make enquiries.

The sessions are workshop based, and everyone is welcome.  You will be assessed for your current level, and with the support of an experienced tutor, you will work towards a qualification at the right level for you.

Information Communication Technology

There are many reasons for you to gain qualifications in ICT, not least because technology is embedded in everyday life!

Even if you have never been on a computer before, we can offer you the ‘Computers for Beginners’ course.

For those with more experience, along with other qualifications, we offer accreditation in:

CLAIT

CLAIT Plus

OCR

We also have internet access and a range of digital media equipment for you to practice your skills on.

The ICT sessions are drop in, and are timetabled on various days and times during the week.  Contact the centre for more details.

Nurturing Course

How to Get the Best Out Of Family Life

This course is currently run in partnership with Banardos however in the future it will be delivered as part of the Community Centre  core Services.

Confidence and Self Esteem

This course will benefit anyone from those who lack a little or a lot in the confidence steaks.  We have all been there when life just seems a little to much to cope with or we are trying to return to work after being a parent to our little ones, or we have got so wrapped up in family life we have forgotten who we are as individuals.

Childcare Courses

We run various childcare courses on and off dependant on the need; these are run by Shipley College.

STEPS

Support, training, encouragement and practical skills for jobs

This course is a 12 week programme plus some work experience and is designed to help people to gain confidence, skills and experience to help them back into the employment market.  This is currently being run by the centre staff, it is hoped that once current funding has run out further funding can be sought to continue this valued support for the community.

We often have short courses.  In the past, for example,  these have been: first aid, cook and eat, food hygiene, goals (delivered by Jobs@)

If you are interested in any courses or think that there is something we should be putting on then please don’t hesitate to contact us.  If you don’t tell us we don’t know what courses you want?

Parent and Toddler Group

Come along to our new Parent and Baby/ Toddler Group we meet on a Tuesday morning 9.30am – 11.30am term time only.  We are always happy to see new faces at our sessions, parents/carers/grandparents all are welcome.  Great for parents/carers/grandparents and the children to make new friends and to get involved in the child’s developments.  Children need to interact from an early age as this helps them to socialise better as they grow and helps with the transitions into Playgroup/nursery and then school.  The group also gives parents/carers/grandparents a chance to chat to others and helps people to feel less isolated in their parent/carer/grandparent roles.

So come along join in the singing and music making enjoying great craft activities, playdough, toys and books plus lots lots more.

Session costs £1 and this included refreshments and a snack

For More information contact the Community Centre on 01274 588684

As well as children having fun and making friends the activities also help to build the child’s personal development developing skills that they will need later in life.  For example team skills, sharing skills, communication skills and social skills.

Summer Family Days Out

Over the summer we have 3 family days out these are in conjunction with day trips organised by Baildon recreation.

The trips change on a yearly basis but usually involve a day at the sea side and days at a theme park.  The trips are reasonably low cost, very enjoyable and gives families chance of a day out without having the hassle of arranging the trip.
